Swan Lake is the timeless ballet composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky during 1875. Initially in two acts, the ballet was fashioned from Russian folk tales telling the story of Odette, a princess turned into a swan by an evil sorcerer's curse. The choreographer of the original production was Julius Reisinger. Swan Lake has undergone many transitions, but the quintessential white feathered tutu has always been an icon. My sculpture pays homage to all the ballerinas who aspired to dance the role of Odette. She is covered in 2,300 Swarovski crystals on a bed of hand-cut glittered feathers. I designed her with the performance of Dame Margot Fonteyn in mind.
